Doobies were outstanding!

This outstanding, fantastic, and awesome concert by the Doobie Brothers in Salamanca, NY was a great ensemble performance for a smaller venue. Their performance was very clean, tight, and flawless, as these rockers really brought down the house! To me, the highlight of the performance was a surprising lesser-known title called "Clear as the Driven Snow" from their "The Captain and Me" album, a driving, momentum-building, climactic song that kept building energy and didn't stop! The richly layered blend of all of these guitars and drums provided a multi-dimensional, multi-faceted performance that was second to none. It was a great mix of popular hits, more progressive tunes, and four songs from their new album, "World Gone Crazy", although the song, "Nobody" is really a reworked song from their very first self-titled album. These four songs breathe new life into the Doobies and add to their diversity as a band, bringing many different musical styles and sounds to the performance. Their performance allowed enough soloing by the various artists to whet your appetite for more, yet was a great ensemble performance. Band originals, Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons sounded exactly like they did 40 years ago on their early albums, with the energy, guitar playing, and vocals as if they hadn't aged a bit! These rockers really rocked and brought down the house! To see five guitarists on stage at once along with two drummers and keyboardist and saxophonist was a truly awesome experience. The encore alone was a 20-minute long jam session beginning with "China Grove" and ending with "Listen to the Music". I cannot say enough about their performance except to say that even if you are a marginal fan of the Maryland Terrapins Football you should go see them LIVE because you are in for a real treat! An evening I won't soon forget! As a bonus, we stuck around afterwards to get a set list and Pat Simmons stopped out, signed autographs and shook our hands! The album is worth buying too, as it is very versatile utilizing the voices of Johnston, Simmons, and many guests including Willie Nelson and later years Doobie, Michael McDonald. It also contains an extra DVD with a documentary and music video.
